Fashion Spring Summer
The Fashion Design Council of India (FDGI) recently announced the dates for the Spring Summer 2009 edition of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, which will be held in New Delhi from October 15 to 19.
While the India catwalks are still restricted to the concept of Spring Summer and Fall Winter, it is not just about two seasons anymore. Resort, Cruise, or the ‘in-between collection, is the new thing internationally.
While the India catwalks are still restricted to the concept of Spring Summer and Fall Winter, it is not just about two seasons anymore. Resort, Cruise, or the ‘in-between collection, is the new thing internationally.
A look at the itineraries of fashion majors the world over reflects the increasing focus on the new collection that gives designer something to work on and customers more to choose from during an otherwise lull period.
On may 12 in New York, John Galliano showed the Resort 2009 collection for Dior, which the fashion house has been putting out since a couple of years. Amidst a pool like setting and presence of attentive guests like Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony and Charlize Theron – Mr. Galliano unleashed bead power, coral and fuchsia. If Galliano created a pool like backdrop, Karl Lagerfeld actually took his whole crew to a Miami pool for Chanel’s Cruise collection. A few days later, Alessandra Facchinetti presented Valentino’s Resort 2009 collection, while Francis co Costa’s Resort 2009 line for Calvin Klein stuck to the trademark beiges, greys and whites.
The bottomline is, Resort is now an official, full fledged collection, with designers coming up with an entire collection instead of a few on and off pieces. Oscar de la Renta’s Resort 2009 show had models parading a total of 66 pieces, ranging from evening gowns to wide-leg trousers, skirts, blouses and sheath dresses wide brimmed hats.
